RUSH
Feel the Rush!
This is my first attempt at rendering a roller coaster in Unreal Engine 4. Ultimately, my goal was to explore how I could bring my rides to life outside of NoLimits Roller Coaster Simulation. Inspired by the X-Car model by Maurer Rides, I was able to achieve a higher than usual quality standard with this attraction. It was quite a lengthy process, combining several different software workflows- using what I know to supplement what I don’t.
The Spline
Using NoLimits 2 Roller Coaster Simulation, I designed the layout to fit into an L-shaped plot suitable for most amusement parks. Also created at this stage were the transport systems and physics simulation, which I was able to export from NoLimits into Blender.
The Model
Once I had my track path in Blender, I was able to model the track, supports, catwalks, vehicles and all supplementary scenery from scratch. The colors you see in the image above are to help identify surfaces for texturing, which was completed in Twinmotion.
The Render
Once I had a fully modeled and textured roller coaster, I started learning Unreal. In the new engine, I created a lush environment and naturally lit the coaster to give it an identity far different from those I’ve created exclusively in NoLimits.
