THE TWILIGHT ZONE: TERROR TRACKS

Picture if you will…

Terror Tracks is an homage to Tower of Terror, created as a form of carrying on the legacy of the popular attraction at California Adventure, which was closed and re-themed on January 2nd, 2017.

The goal for this roller coaster was to follow similar beats to Tower of Terror, while still being a unique attraction. To accomplish this, I've taken iconic moments from the real ride (The "hallway" scene, the "wave goodbye" scene, etc) and re-profiled them to fit a new theme. In this setting, riders of an underground subway train are sent plummeting into the Twilight Zone via a rickety old track inspection vehicle.

The Voice

One aspect of this project that I'm particularly proud of is our voice actor, Mark Silverman. As some of you may know, this is the man who voices all three of the actual Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror attractions at Disney's California Adventure, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Walt Disney Studios.

The Funds

In order to properly compensate the voice talent, a Kickstarter project was created, raising $1,225 across 38 individual backers. It was a fun challenge creating, producing and shipping rewards for donors such as T-shirts, posters, and even placement in the final ride .

The Design

The track profile for the coaster was designed using Newton 2, a force vector design (FVD) program. The program allows its user to create a layout based on normal, lateral and roll force magnitude over time. This was particularly interesting given the constraints of trying to put the layout inside of a building.
